To start the day well it’s best to create a productive morning routine, says she who really wanted to push the snooze button. Yet, I know that one of the best morning habits to adopt is to jump out of bed in the morning early enough to take action on your goals.
I don’t push the snooze button often but as winter sets in here in Australia, I really like the warmth of my doona. Most days, I like to start the day knowing I’ve ticked some of my key self-development boxes. Therefore, I know that I’d regret it if I push the snooze button.
To win the day and feel successful I’ve found that it is important to create productive daily habits that make you feel like you have had a wonderful day. Even before the working day has commenced.
I don’t know about you, but for me, a successful day is one that enables me to work on my goals, my ambitions, my values in life. These are the things I like to work on as part of my morning routine.
7 Productive morning routine habits for a successful day.
Creating morning habits can set you up for a positive day. Especially if you are working towards some key goals and you take action on them as part of your morning routine.
You and I, both have different goals in life. Our goals are important to us. My goals are important to me and your goals are important to you. The value you give your goals will have a big impact on how you spend your days. To create morning habits for your success you need to first know what your goals are. Here is a Guide to life goals with core value list.
Know what you’re aiming for.
One thing to do each morning is to check in with your goals. Also, take action daily towards your goals.
It is good to write down your goals. Write down or read your long term goal and write down the steps you are doing today towards the goal. Every day take action towards your core goals.
One question I ask myself each day is ‘what can I do today to feel amazing and bring me closer to my goals.’
The one thing does not need to be big, it just needs to be something that moves you forward towards your goals. Like go for a walk, read a book, book a coach, be active on a webinar, write a blog, and plan the weekly meals. All these things are productive morning routine habits that will help you reach your bigger life goals.
When you don’t know what YOU are aiming for, it is hard to structure your day for productivity and success.
Prioritize your health.
Invest in your health. For health is wealth. Without a healthy body, you may not be able to accomplish the things in life that you would like to do.
There are many people who prioritize wealth over health and then cannot enjoy wealth due to their health. I heard once about a lovely old lady who lived in a beautiful house with large gardens. She had gardeners take care of the gardens. She had plenty of money, but her health was so poor she could not walk around her gardens or assist in the garden like she had envisioned she would.
I just need to read the quote from Jim Rohn to focus on sticking to a healthy productive morning routine habits each day. One of the goals I have each day is to walk 10,000 steps daily.
Take care of your body. It’s the only place you to live.
Jim Rohn
Invest in yourself.
Every morning invest in you. Believe in yourself and invest in yourself. Do something for yourself that helps you with personal growth.
I recommend reading ‘the morning miracle’ and adopting some or all of the morning routine suggestions. Hal Elrod transformed his life after being in a serious car accident. He invested in himself with lifesavers that transformed his life. Read about the SAVERS in positive ways to start the day that will transform your life.
I personally like to read and listen to podcasts but there are many ways to absorb mental nutrition for personal development.
- Listen to podcasts
- Reading personal development books
- Attending seminars
- Taking part in online workshops
- Working with coaches
- Having a mentor
Nourishing yourself in a way that helps you blossom in the direction you want to go, is attainable, and you are worth the effort.

It is important to invest in yourself. Investing in yourself first thing in the morning is a healthy productive morning routine habit to have. However, it is also important to invest in relationships. In the relationships that matter to you. Invest in time with your family and friends. Most important though is investing in relationships that help you grow as a person. There is a saying that you are the sum of the five people you surround yourself with. Therefore, take an account of who you spend the most time with. Are you spending time with people who stretch you or hold you back?
Mastermind with like-minded people.
Masterminds are great for personal and business goals. As being part of a mastermind group helps you develop the skills you need to progress. Masterminds are give and take relationships where you share and receive in a collaborative way. They are often small groups where you can get to know the other members. Just being part of a mastermind group can keep you accountable.
Practice gratitude.
On waking practice gratitude. Waking up with an attitude of gratitude is positive. There is so much to be grateful for each day. Just waking up to enjoy the day is one thing to be grateful for.
When you see things positively you always find a way to achieve or step closer to the long term vision you hold for yourself.
Visualize your day.
One of the steps in ‘the miracle morning’ is visualization. I was taught to visualize my ideal day daily.
When you write out your ideal day, read it and then visualize it, you will over time realise that you are moving closer towards this day or a similar day. In fact, when you visualise your day, you begin to see how some of the activities in your ideal day can take place already.
Keep a daily journal.
Writing in a daily journal has got to be one of the best morning habits to adopt.
I find that when you write daily in a journal you can express your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. You figure things out as you write and you see things differently. Journalling is a place to express and reflect.
In fact journaling, both morning and evening is recommended. Morning for intention and evening for reflection.
When you journal in the morning, write down 2 intentions for the day. Also, write a brief goal statement of your core goal. In the morning you could also write something you are grateful for. I like to write my thanksgiving journal in the evening as I reflect on the day.

Prioritize your list.
Planning your day should happen the evening prior. However, in the morning check your list to see what you have planned for the day. Remember to prioritize it. Put yourself top of the list. You need to take care of yourself and your needs too.
So many of us spend a lot of time caring for others that we put our needs last. It is vital that we prioritize ourselves.
Women in particular need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we’re scurrying to and from appointments and errands, we don’t have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.
